Career Coaching Conversations for Managers Workshops

Many managers steer clear of the career conversation, or at the very least find it awkward to have.

What do you say? What do you do if staff ask for something you can't give, like additional responsibility, a secondment or a pay rise? And then there's the practical dilemmas such as if your company is undergoing re-organisation and you don't know what the future holds, what on earth can you share with your direct reports? The list of barriers goes on.

With research showing that lack of career progression being a critical reason why good people leave companies and staff surveys often pointing to this as a factor for disengagement, having career and development conversations is no longer a luxury. Managers must find a way to feel confident to have them, because the costs to the manager, the team and the organisation are becoming too high to ignore.

In this two-hour workshop (which can also be done as a full day if preferred), Master Certified Coach Ros Toynbee will cover

- The key barriers that stop managers feeling under-confident to have career conversations (and how to overcome them).

- The five ways you can support team members to think about, and take responsibility for continued learning and professional growth including
o helping to identify strengths,
o offering your perspective,
o discussing company and industry trends,
o exploring multiple options,
o and action planning

- How to keep the dialogue alive, and your direct reports feeling heard, supported and fulfilled in their current role and beyond.

Who is it for?

This workshop is best for managers who have already had some training or exposure in basic coaching skills and the GROW model. If managers haven't, then the coaching foundation can be included as a pre-cursor to this day or embedded within a full day's training.
